We get a lot of questions about squirrel-proof feeders. While some slow them down, these clever little guys often find a way to foil the best design. About the best we've found use a "hanging shield" and have a wire mesh perch that surrounds the feeder and is weight-sensitive to close the perch openings.

However, the National Wildlife Federation probably has a better solution called National Squirrel Appreciation Day, which is on January 21. I think the best methods for keeping squirrels out of anything is to use a combination of deterrent methods.
