The Eastern Phoebe is in the flycatcher family and is an insect-eater. It will eat fruit if there are no insects. Phoebes are fun to watch as they generally perch on a branch in the open. They fly out to catch insects, then often return to the same spot. You may not see their prey, but they do! Usually the branch/fence/wire is less than 25 feet high. Their call sounds very much like "phoe-bee." I often see them along the Oyster Creek (shown below at sunrise) and along streams in parks.
